Paying it Forward: A Holiday Giveaway




Today looks like it'll be a day of borrowing, but this one means three of you get something in return. I was just reading over at LouCeeL and he's joined in a holiday gifting event that gives of one's own talents. He got the idea from If Mom Says OK. Okay, the rules, because without them, there would be anarchy. We wouldn't want that, now would we?

1. Be one of the first three bloggers to leave a comment on this post, where the first word in the comment is "Yes". By saying "Yes" as the first word, you signify you want to participate in this giveaway. Being one of the first three to say "Yes" will then entitle you to a handmade item from ME!

I love this idea, that you can have a piece of a blogging friend's time and talent with you all the time.

As far as talents go, I'm not up there in the realm of Lou with art. However, I did comment that I can share my photography, calligraphy or cross stitch abilities. I also realized that if you're in the continental US, you might get some edible crafts. All I know is that you'll have to wait until I am gainfully employed, but it WILL arrive on your doorstep. Just think, you'll be surprised sometime in 2009 with something from me.

Kwanza is a holiday that was started in the late '60's and got a lot of publicity about 10 years ago. Basically, it's a celebration of African culture for those whose ancestors were brought to the states by slave trader.

It's a thoroughly American holiday-and the fact that the woman from Africa had to ask the question is proof!

Wal Mart Your Zone $500.00 Gift Card Contest!

For several months now, I have participated in WalMart 's Beyond Eleven Moms, a collective of bloggers who partner with WalMart to give feedback on products already in stores and ideas about products that the company can offer in their stores. Last month, I was approached to help test out a new product line in the stores. Many retailers offer room decor for youngsters and college students, but affordable furniture, bedding and decor for teens was hard to find. Enter Your Zone ! We were sent a $500.00 WalMart gift card and given a mission: redo a bedroom whatever way you like within that amount for your teen. If you asked me to do it anywhere else, I think I could buy a bed and a dresser and be done. The whole point of Your Zone is that your teen can change things without breaking the bank. First up, let's find a bed! The beds the boys have are the bunk beds we bought at Ikea back when Chef graduated out of a crib.

Webmaster Alex speaks Anonymously

**Please note, this post was written in 2008, over 7 years ago.  This is not current, but remains to detail the DISboards bannings.** The other day, I wrote of my banning from the Disboards, a site I belonged to for six years. I was banned for participating in another site, as were approximately 35 others. The list will be posted further in this entry. If you skip this post because it doesn't mean anything except to the participants, I don't mind. This is mainly out there for the hundreds (over 7,500 now!**) of Google searches that have been directed to my blog since the bannings. Lord knows, anytime anyone asks a question on the Disboards, it'll be poofed faster than you can say "delete." Curiously, I received an anonymous comment that rambled on and on.
