Perhaps This Will Do the Trick

Image
You know how as soon as you find the flashlights and light the candles, the power comes back on? The cable and the Internet have been out for three hours. It's approaching midnight and they're still out, but I'm wondering if taking a picture of my screen will do the trick: Of course, five minutes after I posted this (and the phone truncated my post), they came back.

Espanol en Vida Real

Image
Now that I'm studying Spanish, it has been good practice to translate the Spanish I encounter in every day life. For instance, we had a website from Spain bookmarked on the spare laptop that had various games, but would play the Bubble Shooter . Back then, I didn't know what it said on that site, just that I enjoyed it. Nine weeks of Spanish and I can comprehend about 90% of the words. By no means am I anywhere close to fluent, but these opportunities to learn are welcome. Now, if only I didn't get sucked into that game for hours!

The Bunnies Do Harry Potter!

Image
I love the Bunnies. Today's email contained this message: Harry Potter Years 1 through 5 hits 30 Second Bunny Theatre. (Note: If you watch it with small kids, as soon as the Terminator screen comes up, PAUSE IT!) Check out the out takes !

Interesting

I was just reading Amy's blog, and she pointed out a neat widget. The Genderanalyzer , in which they review data from your blog and determine whether it is written by a man or a woman. My result? We think http://www.suzannesez.blogspot.com is written by a man (70%) What determines whether you're a masculine or feminine writer? It's peaking my curiosity.

You're in the Blogophere, So You'll Get It

People IRL seem puzzled at this phenomenon (doot do dee doo doo), but those who haunt the Net will get this a lot better. Last night, after years of 'seeing' each other on message boards, months of saying we should talk and exchanging phone numbers, Robin and I finally got around to talking. You know what? When we finally did get on the phone, we couldn't stop talking. In many respects, we're kindred spirits. We're both Disney freaks, we both have RSD and we're both transplants to God's Waiting Room. I know that may not be enough to form a bond, but trust me, that's just the tip of the iceberg. It was very cool to chat (for THREE hours that seemed like ten minutes) and finally put a voice to those printed words. She's just as funny on the phone as she is in print, even when talking about serious crap like health woes. We made plans to meet sometime next week and you'll be able to spot us if you're in Kissimee: the woman with the air b...

Holy Catfish, Batman!

Image
Check this out: ELKIN, N.C. - David Hayes' granddaughter just asked him to hold her Barbie rod and reel while she went to the bathroom. He did. And seconds later he landed the state record channel catfish at 21 pounds, 1 ounce. ADVERTISEMENT Alyssa's father had bought the pink Barbie fishing rod for Christmas and she had caught a few bluegill before her grandfather hauled in the catfish. The Winston-Salem Journal reported the catch Aug. 5 in eastern Wilkes County has been certified as a record by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Hayes and his granddaughter have been fishing in the pond behind his house since she was big enough to hold a pole. Hayes said his granddaughter worried he would break her rod. He landed the 21-pound fish on a 6-pound test line. It was 32 inches long, 2 inches longer than the rod.

More Fun from You Tube

I thought of my blog buddy Sarah when I saw this one, but it's too good not to share here. I don't think I'll hear Evenflow the same way ever again! As an aside, I've tried to upload this one to the blog six times. It hasn't wanted to come peacefully, so I had to beat it into submission. Much like you do wayward children!

Further Proof the Internet Will Explode

I'm finally doing something with my Facebook page. I have friends, woohoo. In fact, Ed commented on the fact that I put up my marital status and it said "Suzanne got married" and yesterday's date. He congratulated me on my marriage. So far, I suspect it will be a whole lot of nothing-but it did find me a few people from high school that I'd always wanted to say Hi to again. You know, the people who actually were nice and friendly, no matter whether you were popular or not. In some down time today, I calculated that I am averaging 40 posts a month. At that rate, I'll fall just shy of 500 posts for 2008. Guess I better step things up, eh? If I do hit 500 posts this year, I'll be 20 posts away from 1000. When I started this thing, I never thought I'd get that many posts in-or that I'd meet so many people as a result. Awesome stuff.

Yet Another Sign the Internet Will Explode

I joined Twitter. Back in January, I saw it on Bonnie's sidebar and thought "Wow, that's neat." I contemplated getting in on the action. Based on her Tweets, though, I suspected that it was a feed reader of all the comments she made on other blogs. That scared me off. The idea that my comments I made elsewhere would be attached to the blog made it an unpalatable option. I started the blog to voice my thoughts, but the reality is that sometimes, the things you want to say can't be said where you want to say them. This has been vaguely mentioned before. I even made a statement that if what I said offended anyone, they should stop reading. It was a rough patch that many steady bloggers go through. I was wrong. Unlike Fonzie, I can say those words, lol. I found out that those tweets on Bonnie's blog? Just proof that the woman is very prolific (and funny). My comments to support others, vent about shared experiences and digs at politicos wouldn't mak...

Why Oh WiFi

No internet. Strangely, I paid that bill three weeks ago, but I came home at lunch to no cable or internet. Great. To fulfill my blogging quest (220 odd days consecutively thus far), I'm out using bandwidth. This time, purchased. Yep, many local McDonald's now have WiFi in their restaurants. It'll cost you: 2.95 for two hours. If you're like me, with a crappy laptop battery that only lasts five to ten minutes, you probably would look along the walls beneath the tables in the hopes of finding a plug for your computer. Right idea, wrong place. McD's has plugs above the tables. Picture a balance compromised shorty like me climbing up to plug a cord in and not quite reaching. Eight dwarf, Clumsy, somehow managed this without injury. Woohoo. You're wondering why I paid for what I can find for free elsewhere. I was too late for Barnes and Noble, Panera or Moe's. $tarbuck$ uses TMo's hotspots, and I believe those are 6.95 for a day. Border's is...

Jim Carrey Saves Me

Image
I'm in a funk about how crappy I've been doing at work. I didn't want to post a whiny post, so I've been procrastinating. Jim Carrey to the rescue! I saw this picture: It reminded me of the late, great, "In Living Color" and his recurring sketches as Vera DeMilo! I'll say one thing: his taste in swimsuits has improved over the past 20 years!

In the Other Room, Ed Was Laughing

While I sat here reading blogs. I asked what was so funny and he describes a site of Photobombing on it. Some of it is NSFW, but all of it is hilarious. Somehow, I can totally see some of my family and friends doing this. You know who you are!

Blogging from the laptop

Woohoo, the new router is up and running and I am sitting comfortably at the couch. Yay! According to Ed, the replacement router was a breeze to set up. My Stupid Leg prefers this method of web surfing. Ed prefers this method, too, because it means he has his computer back. For me, it means I get to chat with my buddies on AOL/Yahoo again. I feel so out of the loop. Oh, and the new router means we can catch up on all those polls on the Wii...

Things that Come back

Several things have come back to me this week (or are coming soon) First, the ability to wear the Crocs. Dr. J wrote a very eloquent (but FIRM) letter stating that I have a lifelong condition called Venous Insufficiency. It caused the Venous Stasis Ulcers and as a result, the RSD/CRPS. He briefly explained what all of was and that I suffer a great deal of pain and the only shoe that is beneficial to reducing the pain is the Crocs. I won the battle, but the war is still waging. I am now told I have to dress FAR NICER than my peers to make up for the ugly shoes. This was communicated by my direct supervisor, my DM hasn't talked to me yet. Wonder how she'll take the comment that's brewing "Hmmm, what would the Labor Board have to say about the conditions you are placing on me because of a medical accommodation?" Second thing that has come back: Vern Troyer has decided to attack my stupid leg (trademark pending) again. I've got the stabbing knives in the cal...

Friends and Tunes

So, my friend Joe has a Live365 channel. Has for quite some time. He's the guy who had a radio station broadcasting from his house when I was a teen. Joe has made a career of working in the radio industry. I finally got around to going to his website and I'm enjoying listening to the tunes. If you're a fan of 80's/new wave, take a listen. http://www.joefm.com/listen.asp Why didn't I think of doing this when I got the spiffy laptop back in February? Gotta go, kid #2 is complaining that there's nothing fun to do. I gave a list of things he *could* do, he tells me he did two simultaneously (running with legos). Ventured into the cleaning room and taking a bath realm and was informed that those are NOT fun, Mom. :) Suzanne
