Live from the Library

Image
In the quest for internet access, I found the library today. It's downtown. Near a lake. Not a surprise, considering just how many lakes there really are in LAKEland. I called for directions and was told "We're next to Lake Morton". That's nice-which one is Lake Morton? The one by Florida Southern College, the one by Lakeland Electric, the one by the huge Power Plant, the one off of Harden Boulevard, or the one that has a Yacht Club on its banks? Yes, you read that right-on one of these lakes, there is a Yacht and Country Club. It is plenty prestigious to be a member of a country club, but no, it's also a Yacht club. Honestly, I think the deepest this lake probably gets is eight feet, so that yacht would have to be an inflatable raft! I forgot my USB cable, or else I could show you the view out the library window. There's a nice park bench, beautiful shade trees and a view of downtown across this lake. The library itself is quite nice, with the...

Why Oh WiFi

No internet. Strangely, I paid that bill three weeks ago, but I came home at lunch to no cable or internet. Great. To fulfill my blogging quest (220 odd days consecutively thus far), I'm out using bandwidth. This time, purchased. Yep, many local McDonald's now have WiFi in their restaurants. It'll cost you: 2.95 for two hours. If you're like me, with a crappy laptop battery that only lasts five to ten minutes, you probably would look along the walls beneath the tables in the hopes of finding a plug for your computer. Right idea, wrong place. McD's has plugs above the tables. Picture a balance compromised shorty like me climbing up to plug a cord in and not quite reaching. Eight dwarf, Clumsy, somehow managed this without injury. Woohoo. You're wondering why I paid for what I can find for free elsewhere. I was too late for Barnes and Noble, Panera or Moe's. $tarbuck$ uses TMo's hotspots, and I believe those are 6.95 for a day. Border's is...

On the Ground Floor and Headed to the Basement

The new job isn't what I expected it to be. I'm feeling defeated and need to get out of this funk. I spent part of the work day Sunday feeling like I was going to burst into tears. I'm frustrated. The selling style is so different from what has been successful for me for years. These are bigger ticket items, so the "Aren't YOU worth it?" type of selling doesn't close the sale. I need to find another angle. Even with things people need, rather than want, I'm not getting it done. One of my coworkers observed that I'm doing too much. Meanwhile, I feel like I'm not doing enough. This job leaves me lots of down time-when I prefer to keep moving and occupied. As a result, I end up idle and thinking. Thinking about what I should be achieving, what I'm not earning, and that I just SUCK at this job. It's really hard to snap out of the mood when I'm used to being awesome at what I do. I'm my own biggest cheerleader, but lately...

Suzanne's Soundtrack Sunday

The Next Generation. As I mentioned last week, Dad had a huge influence on my early musical education with the constant radio playing, the records purchased, the plays attended and the music lessons. With my kids, it's a slightly different approach, but I think we're getting similar results. Gameboy has the constant video soundtrack going in his head, but when he's not playing those games, you might find him with the iPod headphones. Unlike most kids, though, he's got tons of movie soundtracks on that thing! (hmmm, interesting, don't know where that comes from!). It's a bit of a trade off for me-he discontinued piano lessons 18 months in because his newly diagnosed OCD was making practicing torture for him. Chef Jr is always singing. (again, no clue why he does that!) He creates songs, he sings what he's heard and has a great ear. The only disconcerting thing there is that his favorite teacher exposed him to "I Believe I Can Fly" by R Kelly. ...

I got a new blog friend request on Blog365 and as always, I went to go check out her blog. Debi writes about her family here . I'm having fun reading another blog, especially one that's got plenty of reading built in! On her blog, she had a blogthing that tells what her name means. Curious, I went to check mine out. Tell me what you think! What Suzanne Means You are the total package - suave, sexy, smart, and strong. You have the whole world under your spell, and you can influence almost everyone you know. You don't always resist your urges to crush the weak. Just remember, they don't have as much going for them as you do. You are a very lucky person. Things just always seem to go your way. And because you're so lucky, you don't really have a lot of worries. You just hope for the best in life. You're sometimes a little guilty of being greedy. Spread your luck around a little to people who need it. You are incredibly wise and perceptive. You have a lot of...

Jim Carrey Saves Me

Image
I'm in a funk about how crappy I've been doing at work. I didn't want to post a whiny post, so I've been procrastinating. Jim Carrey to the rescue! I saw this picture: It reminded me of the late, great, "In Living Color" and his recurring sketches as Vera DeMilo! I'll say one thing: his taste in swimsuits has improved over the past 20 years!

If I'd Bothered to Go To Mandy's Blog First

Image
I would have realized that there was a MeMe, ripe for fulfilling my Blog 365 posting requirements. Speaking of which, I'm past the halfway point on that, and have blogged for 8 months straight without stopping. I don't think I'll know how to take a day off when this is all said and done! Enough about that, Mandy had the perfect meme for me, lol. Considering that we 'met' on a Disney site, it makes sense that it's a Disney Meme. Character: MaryPoppins WDW Park: Epcot WDW Month: October. Food and Wine is the best. Land: Tomorrowland (especially if it's a combo of WDW and DL) Epcot Country: France Rides/Classic: Pirates of the Carribean New: Expedition Everest Boat: Pirates Roller Coaster: California Screamin' (though I think it's different from what I experienced) Show: Impressions De France 3-D: Philharmagic Parade: Boo To You Restaurant: 'Ohana Character Meal: Garden Grill Food/breakfast: Tonga Toast and a Kona French Press @ Kona Cafe Lunch...
