'70's Flashback

Image
A friend posted a picture to Facebook today of Jif's new 'To Go' packages of peanut butter and chocolate flavor. Damn you Thank you, HootSuite, for pointing out this new addiction product. Meanwhile, I reminds me of something from the '70's that my mom would buy and I loved, Koogle: Yay for Google Images and Wikipedia for actually having this product listed. Koogle was released in 1970, but I can remember in first and second grade, getting to have chocolate peanut butter sandwiches in my school lunch and I loved that. I know Mom bought Koogle because she was a sucker for peanut butter cups, but everybody in the house loved the stuff. I'm ready to go and get some now...

A Wrapping Tutorial Revisited

Image
A few years back, I posted a tutorial on how to wrap presents , with accompanying photographs for the critical steps in the process. I am debating recreating this in video form. Anyone want to tell me if they could use a video guide?

A friend posted on Facebook today "Does anyone have a Wii Fit they want to sell?" As I have one that would tell me it's been 972 days since your last confession workout, I offered her mine. At the time they came out, I'd thought that the yoga activities would meet my doctor's 'no impact' workout criteria. Little did I know that my balance issues are related to the big fat head and no amount of running dog is going to change that. I called her tonight and got her voice mail. I commented that I didn't realize that she had a Wii, but then again, her apartment is so clean you can eat off the floors-she probably had it hidden somewhere ( a comment I believe I actually made on the voice mail). If she didn't, no matter, I've got a spare Wii if she wanted to consider taking that, too. Guess what? She doesn't have a Wii. She thought the Wii Fit was a stand alone product. So I told her my reason for mentioning it. When I managed the...

Ringing in the New Year

Image
Yesterday, I reminded a FB friend about his informative Tweets a few years ago about the proper undergarments to ring in the new year. This piqued the interest of another of his friends and seeing that we had about 15 friends in common, she sent me a friend request. She also asked a question: What's the deal with the yellow underwear? I sent her the link and I got the coolest complement, in that she said she was laminating it and putting that post up on her mantle. However, as it is nearly New Year's Eve, you may be considering the things you desire in the coming year. To refresh your memory, yellow underwear is good for financial prosperity, red for romance, and black is very bad. Plan your undergarments accordingly.

I Love Facebook, But...

sometimes it dredges up things from your past that were probably better buried. There is a lot that is enjoyable and good about Facebook, and I've got an entry soon about that, but today, I just want to tell you a story that I'd done my best to forget. When these types of things happen, I need a day or two to process the thoughts, what they do to me and how to write about it. If you haven't figured it out by now, this is my therapy. Whatever is bothering me will sooner or later end up written down. This is a long one, so if you want to grab a cup of coffee to mull over it or skip entirely, go right ahead. I think it speaks a lot about the person I've become. When I was 6 years old, my parents bought a house on the South Shore of LI. The town was chosen because, at that time, the schools were in the top 5 in the state. They pushed to get there when Giggles and I were young. On the first day of school (really second day-they kept me home the first day), I walk int...

Twenty Years Ago, part two

I would have thought you were crazy, if twenty years ago, you told me: I'd eat chipped beef, fried green tomatoes, grits or gator-and like it all. That I would like sweet tea that wasn't anything like Long Island Deli Tea. (there is a HUGE difference) That I'd drink coffee. That I'd find that I was allergic to even more stuff than I was back then. What about you? What would have boggled your mind twenty years ago? (forgive the lame post. My mind is percolating a new recipe for tomorrow's dinner. If it works, the pictures will be very pretty...)

June 3, 1996

Seven weeks ago, I shared the story of Gameboy's arrival into the world. When he arrived, I thought that I'd gone through the roughest thing that having a baby could throw at me. Of course, I was wrong. Gameboy was a colicky baby without a normal sleeping pattern. This was fine when I was on maternity leave, but I returned to work the Wednesday after Memorial Day. We were adjusting and starting to get into a routine. We had a friend nanny for the summer and I'd worked out a good set schedule with my assistant manager to keep Gameboy with me or Ed for all but 15 hours per week. Since he was colicky, sometimes the best way to get him to sleep was beside me in bed. We'd catnap on the couch and that Monday night, we'd fallen asleep on the couch while he'd nursed. He slept a good 5 or so hours, then I got up and nursed him and got ready for work. I'd thought that I slept poorly on the couch, as my hip was in excruciating pain-like a constant muscle s...

The Nursing Diaries

Thanks to Lotus , today is a celebration of feeding our babies! Welcome to the (Breast)feeding Carnival ! For me, there was never a question of what I wanted to do: I would breastfeed my kids. Funny thing is, Ed and I had never discussed this when we began dating. As ours was a long distance relationship, many hours were spent on the phone talking about our plans for the future. Kids most definitely were part of the plan. (According to my ex, that was his prime motivation to step out, because I wanted kids and he didn’t. His loss.) We visited my niece, her husband and infant son and he spoke up for me, that when we did have kids, I would definitely nurse! I guess my ideas were pretty transparent! Little did we know, a year and some months later, we’d have our own son and we began on our own nursing journey. During my pregnancy, I was big on asking any mom “What didn’t they tell you when you had a baby that you wish you’d known?”. I asked my doctors “What complications only ha...
