Pig Stand, Ormond Beach, Florida

Image
When staying in Daytona, it is a given that we will travel a few exits north on I-95 to Ormond Beach and visit the Pig Stand for some 'cue. We spent the night over on the beach and decided that lunch had to be Pig Stand before we returned home. Chef was nursing a sore mouth, so he just went with Macs and Cheese, and when GameTeen heard that, he got them, too. Meanwhile, I went for the Burnt End sandwich, a nice pork BBQ that is served naked with slaw on top and a choice of side. Barbeque sauces are on the table, and I opted for a blend of the mustard and hot. Yum. The slaw is a little on the sweeter side, but is crunchy and fresh, in case you prefer tangy slaw. I will probably skip the corn next time. It seems like frozen ears and no amount of butter, salt and pepper could give it flavor. They make really good, savory beans-I'll go with those next time. Ed got the Fat Boy with beans. This sandwich comes with lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese and a cream...

Dimitri's Artisan Sandwiches, Ormond Beach

If anything, I know I can walk into a Greek restaurant and come out full. No matter where I am traveling, it's a known quantity and will remind me of being a kid, thanks to the plentiful diners and Greek restaurants on Long Island So, when in Daytona, when hunger hit, the call of Dimitri's was too loud to pass the place by, and I'm so glad we went! . Service is top notch, we had an attentive waitress who was fun to talk to, and she knows her cuisine so well, because she not only has been a server, she's cooked for Dimitri, too. Our choices were met with approval and at the end, I think we were a little bummed that we were too full for dessert, because everything was so good! Something that you must try is their Feta Fries. They're coated in Dimitri's homemade Greek dressing and given a generous helping of crumbled feta. These could be a meal on their own and they are hard to resist! GameTeen wanted shrimp and these looked fantastic. He enjoyed them, ...

Charlie Horse, Daytona Florida

If you want all you can eat Crab Legs, Charlie Horse is your place. Heck, if you get a 1/2 pound order of crab legs, you will not leave Charlie Horse hungry. This time, however, we went for lunch-and left just as pleased. Ed got a cheesesteak that had plenty of cheese and good flavor, but he said it was a tad bit dry. The fries, however, are awesome, with just a bit of batter on them and very crispy. I got a grilled chicken club that was also fantastic. I swiped onions off of GameTeen's burger and was pleased with the grilled char and flavor, the crisp bacon, and ample cheese. Two at the table had cheeseburgers and both raved about them, with GameTeen barely talking during the meal because he was nomming on that burger of his. That's always an indication of his seal of approval. At night, the place has a wait, so if you want those crab legs, come early! However, for lunch, we were able to walk in and pick a seat. Our server was nice and friendly, though Ed ob...

The Black Sheep, Daytona Beach

Image
Last year, our first night of our Daytona vacation found us at this nice pub near Ormond Beach. We're over here again and when dinner time rolled around, we decided to head back to a known quantity. (My apologies for the lack of pictures-I took them, but they're not uploading). Anyway, Daytona seems really quiet today, and it extended to the Black Sheep, because there were less than a dozen people in the place when we walked in. This meant we had the pick of tables and a very attentive server. The menu is full of traditional British pub standards, like bangers and mash, Shepherd's pie, fish and chips and liver and onions, as well as traditional American bar food of burgers and sandwiches. At a pub, you want beer, and they've got over 21 of them on tap-so Ed got a Newcastle Brown. It's hard to come by on tap, and he was pleased. As for our meals, we were all set with some delicious choices. GameTeen had some homemade fish and chips that looked fantastic, Chef g...

The Neon Tour of Daytona

Yep, I'm at it again. This time, Daytona's neon. I could probably spend a week taking pictures and not hit it all, but here are a few:
