Making the Kid Happy

Image
Chef is quite enamored with the Hunger Games books. It's like pulling teeth to get him to read for pleasure, so the fact that he's soaking this in makes me happy. A few weeks ago, he asked to see the movie when it came out. I'm not interested in seeing it, the storyline is not appealing to me at all. Still, I told Chef he could go. Then I found out the local drive in will be showing it. Instead of the usual $4 head for two movies, this weekend it's just Hunger Games on one side. Still, $8 bucks to make him happy is not a bad deal. And me? I'll be using that mobile wifi to do schoolwork at a picnic table or in the back of the van while he watches his movie...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, the Non Spoiler Edition

Image
Or: You wanted to know about this new D-Box thingamajig and/or how the movie plays in 3-D and I've got the information to share. It hasn't been mentioned on the blog much (or possibly not at all), but I have a substantial blind spot in my left eye, thanks to strabismus. There's nothing wrong with the eye mechanically, but it turns slightly to the left and as an infant, the brain couldn't reconcile the two different ocular images-so that one is ignored in processing. Thing is, I've never really had a problem with it, except for having poorer than average depth perception (which is why I suck at baseball, tennis, football and anything where a ball is in the air) and an inability to effectively watch 3-D movies. A few years ago, Disney opened Mickey's Philharmagic at Walt Disney World and I went in, not expecting to enjoy it. Suprisingly, it all worked for me, a first in my life. So, when the only ticket options for the local theatre's midnight showing wer...

After a Long Wait

Image
Some of my friends are sitting in movie theatres across the country, waiting for part one of the last Harry Potter installment. We have a local movie theatre that just added an IMAX screen, and Deathly Hallows is only the second movie they'll be showing. So now, the dilemma. Do I take the kids to the drive in to see it over the weekend, or do I wait for Ed's day off next week, so we can all go?

Laughing My Butt Off

When Clerks was released on video, my boss of all people, insisted that I needed to see it. We were managers of a retail establishment and he thought that it was too funny not to share. I don't know why it took them ten years to make a sequel-or why it took five years for me to see it. Add Clerks II to the list of movies that are better than the original

Remember the MCP?

Image
Greetings, programs! If you do remember the MCP, and understand the first two words of the post, you probably enjoyed the groundbreaking film for computer animation, Tron. In San Diego last year, at ComiCon, lucky attendees got to experience Flynn's Arcade once again AND were treated to a trailer for the then recently announced Tron Legacy. This year, Flynn's Arcade is open for business for those who travel the San Diego downtown area. Apparently, Encom International has a big press conference scheduled for the convention tomorrow. (You'll want to poke around that site, programs.) It makes me want to go and dig a pair of light cycles out of the toy bins in one of the kid's closets. Who knew when I bought those things almost 10 years ago that we'd be seeing such a huge announcement-or find things on the Internet like this ? The best part is probably that come November, Game Teen will have a new soundtrack to play over and over. Flynn Lives!

Mixing Movie Metaphors

The players: Ed Suzanne Chef Jr Gameboy The locale: The car, driving home. Ed, Gameboy and Chef are talking about Star Wars Characters, centering around Force Unleashed. Chef suspects that one character is the grandfather of Boba Fett. Discussion between Ed and the boys continues as to why. Ed: Why do you think he's the grandfather? Chef: He's got the same body armor and is a bounty hunter Ed: That doesn't mean anything. Besides, he could have bought the armor. Chef: Where would he buy armor like that? Gameboy: There aren't any shops on Geonosis. Ed: Well, he could have taken a vacation at Cloud City. Chef: Why would he want to do that? Ed: Well, maybe it reminded him of his home. Chef: It's not the type of place to vacation, you know? Suzanne: Maybe it reminded him of his brains, you know, full of air. Chef: But Cloud City is full of people! Suzanne: So is Soylent Green.

Squeeeeee!

Trailer Addict put the Harry Potter Trailer up over the weekend. Instead of the original November release, we've got to wait until next year. Boo, but YAY! for the trailer!

Sci Fi Geeks!

This guy definitely needs a job in commercial film editing...

Movies I've Missed

Last night, I was working with a couple and the wife tells me that they're about to go see a movie, that she'd convinced her husband to go see one with her. He was embarrassed that he'd agreed to go see a 'chick flick', but it was okay to tell someone he didn't know that he was about to see Sex and the City. It made me think about this one. Why? Because I've never seen a single episode of the show. So, today, I list movies/shows I have never seen and you can laugh at my geekiness! They'll be all across the board, I'm just looking at lists of the most popular movies of the past 10 years Movies I have never seen: Titanic Fast and the Furious Austin Powers (any of them) The Matrix Gladiator Rush Hour (either) Oceans 11 or 12 Signs any of the Spider Man Movies War of the Worlds any of the Bourne Movies By virtue of the fact that I've never seen the tv show, I doubt I'll be seeing Sex and the City:the Movie. TV shows I've never seen. Like...
